What does Mobility as a Service mean?

March 31, 2020

Written by Eric Bruun Ph.D. Senior Researcher, Kyyti Group

Mobility as a Service (MaaS) enables to bring all modes of transport together into one place where users can pay their travel options with a single account. It removes the hassle from planning and paying for travel and is a sustainable alternative to get travellers from door-to-door. Mobility as a Service (MaaS) is a means of travel where one no longer has to depend on one’s own vehicle(s) for daily living. Instead, mobility is literally at your fingertips, and if needed, ordering, the type(s) of mobility desired. This can include arranging for travel as soon as possible as well on a pre-planned schedule. MaaS can include anything from shared modes wide open to everyone to a one-person conveyance only available for selection by a pre-authorized group of people. Smartphone applications permit an entire trip chain to be ordered in one place for one price as well as updates and rebookings as needed.
