Denver Regional Transportation District (RTD) has the largest set of demand responsive transportation services for the general public of any metropolitan public transport agency in the USA. RTD has managed FlexRide operations in 23 service zones in the Denver region with DemandTrans Solutions’ Mobility-DR software for scheduling, pooling and dispatching since 2010. High levels of automation make demand responsive service hassle-free for customers, giving FlexRide the RTD’s highest customer satisfaction rating of 4.6 out of 5.
In 2020 Mobility-DR was integrated to the Kyyti MaaS Platform and it forms the core of the Kyyti DRT solution. The integration was first implemented and tested for Denver FlexRide service. Previously the FlexRide users have been able to book a ride only from a call centre or via a website. From February 2021 the users have been able to book FlexRide also via an app called RTD Trip Planner with FlexRide (in short RTD Trips), delivered by Kyyti. Furthermore, the RTD Trips app enables the users not only to book single FlexRide trips, but to plan trips combining FlexRide with regular fixed public transport.
The deployment of the RTD Trips app consisted of setting up and configuring the already existing building blocks of Kyyti MaaS Platform for RTD:
- Tenant and admin panel for RTD as the merchant of record
- Open Trip Planner setup
- GTFS feed configuration for Denver RTD fixed and demand responsive services
- User app variant creation and customization with RTD brand and details
- Integrating the existing FlexRide Mobility-DR instance and configuration
The first RTD Trips version enables planning travel chains and booking FlexRide trips. Payments are not included and neither are public transport tickets. RTD is using Masabi’s mobile ticket solution. The next step is to integrate the Masabi ticket SDK to RTD Trips app and to configure the Stripe payment service for RTD to allow payment collection through the app. We hope to get this done this spring. Kyyti already has experience from Masabi SDK integration from the Vamos project, which means that the actual deployment can be done in a few weeks.
Eventually, the users will be able to book and pay for all RTD services – both fixed and demand responsive – with one app, powered by Kyyti.
